Health Study Event Organiser
Health Study Event Organiser (volunteer position)
Do love organising events?
Do you care about the health and wellbeing of women and families living in villages in East Timor?
Then we need you!
East Timor Women Australia (ETWA) is a Melbourne based not-for-profit organisation run by volunteers. We work to support women in three remote communities on the eastern tip of the island of Timor-Leste. In East Timor, we work with the Cooperative for Tais & Cultural Development (CTCD) which works with three weaving collectives of women from the poorest and most disadvantaged families in the region. Operating according to the tradition of fulidai-dai; a set of cultural principles that prioritises equality, reciprocity and the support of the whole community the weaving collective produce unique handmade products including scarves, bags, bookmarks, boxes and traditional cloth.
In 2009/2010 ETWA has been working on researching and publishing a Health Study Report which looks into the effects of weaving on women in the communities we support, general health issues, living conditions and major health concerns of women and families in East Timor.
We need assistance to help organise a launch of our Health Study Report- bringing together health sector professionals, possible donors and local supporters
You will need to be an independent worker, have good people skills, some experience in event management, publicity and marketing and an interest in health, community work and women’s empowerment.
As an ETWA volunteer you will be supported by our staff and team of dedicated long-term volunteers. You will have access to office space and will be reimbursed for any ETWA related travel expenses.
What will you get out of it?
- An opportunity to lead the planning and organisation of this event
- A great opportunity to network and build contacts in the fields of health, international development and community work
- Skills and experience in small event management
- An opportunity to be part of something great!
