Join us on this year’s Weaving Tour to East Timor. The tour aims to give a unique cross- cultural experience to a group of 6-8 participants. With a focus on Indigenous weaving and fair trade development, we will discover how women live in traditional society and also as citizens in an emerging democracy. Participating on the tour is a once in a life-time opportunity to intimately engage with East Timorese culture and tradition whilst sharing in an unforgettable journey with like-minded people. Leaving mid Sept 2010 (exact dates to be confirmed).

The count-down is on! Construction of the two women’s spaces in Iliomar Timor-Leste will start in mid September. We’re mobilising the building community to give us a hand to gather a range of materials required for the centres. Click here for more info

Gimme Shelter Camaign

The ‘GIMME SHELTER’ campaign has been running since 2007, raising funds for women’s spaces in remote communities in Timor-Leste. We’re so very, very close but we still need a little more help! So we’re seeking donations to the final ‘GIMME SHELTER’ campaign to gather the remainder of the funds needed to complete the buildings. Construction is due to start in mid September with  completion by the end of October. No amount is too small, and your generosity is deeply appreciated both by ETWA and the Cooperative members in East Timor. Great news! The dates for our 2010 Weaving Tours are finally confirmed for July and September. The tour is a wonderful opportunity to see the beauty of Timor’s landscapes and oceans, learn about life in this new democracy, visit community development programs, connect with local communities and experience life in remote Timorese villages. The journey aims to give ETWA members and supporters an opportunity to learn about women’s culture in East Timor and through a series of participatory workshops, also learn about the wonders and intricacies of traditional Tais weaving.
