Every donation will help us help East Timorese weavers to create sustainable livelihoods for their families and communities and keep their rich cultural history alive. East Timorese weaving ‘Tais’ is at the centre of our work. We have a wide range of exquisite hand-woven products for sale, the entire proceeds of which go directly to the weavers. We consult directly with the Co-operatives in Timor to work out a fair and just price for their handicrafts to ensure all our prices are ethical trade.
By purchasing this exquisite and significant hand-weaving you will be directly helping the women to maintain their culture and provide for their families and communities.
As a grassroots organisation we rely on our volunteers to make activities and projects a reality. By volunteering with us you’ll get to meet like-minded people, learn new skills and make a difference. Each year, ETWA runs Cultural/Weaving tours to East Timor. These are valuable experiences for participants of the tour and for the Timorese communities we visit. With a focus on indigenous weaving and fair trade development, the tour cultivates an understanding of how women live in traditional society and as citizens in an emerging democracy. Immersion in village life through extended visits to development projects and communities in the eastern corners of the island, encourage participation in handcrafts and weaving workshops and cultural activities. The tour also aims to give something back to the host communities.
